Russia: Match schedules for FIFA World Cup unveiled
A day before the Preliminary Draw, FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke announced the match schedules for the FIFA World Cup 2018, during a press conference in St. Petersburg on Friday. Kick-off times will be confirmed at a later stage.
Valcke recalled that once it was confirmed Russia would host the World Cup in 2018, it immediately began to make decision regarding the host cities and “working on the organisation of the competition”. He added that now, bar one stadium, the preparations are “perfectly on time” with the planned schedule, even ahead in some cases. Ahead of Saturday's qualifying draw for the 2018 World Cup the Secretary General confirmed that “all 209 member associations were registered”, resulting in 851 matches to be played over the next two and a half years.
The opening ceremony of the 2018 World Cup will take place at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. The match schedule has been approved and officials are currently working on the kick off time. The next FIFA committee will be held in March 2016.
