Ukraine: Right Sector call for 'indefinite' Kiev protest after Mukachevo attack

Ukraine, Kiev

Right Sector protesters continued to demonstrate outside Kiev's Presidential Administration building into the early hours of Sunday morning, demanding the resignation of Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov as well as calling for the resignation of police chiefs in the Transcarpathian region. Protester can be seen playing musical instruments, eating sandwiches and drinking tea. Local media reports indicate that organisers have announced that the protest will be indefinite.

The protest comes after at least two Right Sector militia members were killed in Mukachevo on Saturday by local police, who reportedly opened fire without warning. Right Sector militants are said to have seized a sports centre before the exchange of fire occurred.

According to Ukrainian Interior Ministry spokesperson Anton Herashchenko, who made a statement on Saturday afternoon, three attackers were killed while four locals and three police officers were injured in the incident. Mayor of Mukachevo Lend'yel Zoltan Zoltanovych later confirmed that 10 people had been injured in the attack - five police officers and five civilians.
