UK: 'Balls to the budget' - Anti-austerity protesters rally outside Downing Street
Protesters gathered at Downing Street in London, to rally against the new wave of austerity that was revealed by British Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, Wednesday.
Protesters, organised by Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC), threw balls at Downing Street and chanted against austerity, holding signs reading "Balls to the budget" and "Oxi to austerity", as Osborne left Downing Street and posed with the symbolic briefcase containing the UK's latest budget.
Osborne announced £8 billion (€11 billion) cuts to welfare over the next two years which protesters say will hit the poorest in society hardest. Cuts include capping benefits for out-of-work families and scrapping maintenance grants for students from poorer backgrounds.
