Switzerland: See Israeli-Palestinian FIFA delegates shake hands
The Israeli and Palestinian FIFA delegates Jibril Rajoub and Ofer Eini met and shook hands to the applause of officials during the 65th FIFA Congress in Zurich, Friday.
The so-called "handshake for peace" between the two delegates happened after the Palestinian Football Association canceled its bid to see FIFA suspend the Israeli national side from international football competition. Earlier in the day, two protest actions took place in and in front of the Hallenstadion where the 65th FIFA Congress is taking place.
The 65th congress is taking place amid bribery and corruption allegations against 14 FIFA officials. The focus of the congress will be the election of FIFA’s president; it is widely expected that long-time president Sepp Blatter will be re-elected and serve a fifth term.
