Russia: Long-term scientific investments are paying off - Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the success of Russian high school education and scientific research and development, in Moscow on Thursday.
Speaking at a meeting of the Lomonosov Moscow State University Board of Trustees, Putin stressed that programmes adopted by the government in the sphere of science and education, despite budget difficulties and economic crisis from 2000-2009, had already started contributing to "create new industries and technologies, organize import substitution wherever it's reasonable and necessary as well as reinvigorate industries, including the defence sector."
The Russian president also outlined the growing weight and reputation of the Moscow State University both in Russia and abroad. He noted that the university had "a really great potential" for moving forward and strengthening its position among other higher education institutes. Putin called on Moscow State University Board of Trustees to contribute to this process, saying that it should provide space for a multi-disciplinary complex, uniting modern laboratories and testing centres. The Russian head of state once again urged science and business to work as one for the sake of the country's future.
