Nepal: See how aid is being delivered to the quake-affected remote villages
The World Food Programme (WFP) released footage on Thursday showing aid workers delivering food via helicopter food into some of the hardest-hit locations, such as the Ghorka district in Kasigau the previous day.
The humanitarian organisation distributed several metric tonnes of rice and high energy biscuits to 1,700 people and is aiming to complete deliveries to another six remote districts over the coming days. Rain and uneven terrain made the journey between remote areas and the landing of the helicopter particularly challenging. The Nepalese government asked WFP to make the food distribution in challenging terrain and remote areas its focal point.
A severe 7.9-magnitude earthquake on April 25, centred between Kathmandu and Pokhara and several aftershocks have so far claimed the lives of at least 5,500 people across Nepal.
