Bolivia: Clashes erupt between students over education protests
A group of protesters, allegedly students of the Medical University of Saint-Simon (UMSS) in Cochabamba, fought with members of student organisation Local University Federation (FUL) on Wednesday, leaving at least six wounded.
The youths were seen throwing fireworks and firecrackers at each other on the streets, some retaliating with rocks.
According to leaders of the FUL, the clashes erupted after students were allegedly paid by lecturers to block the hunger strikes camp that FUL installed in the university. Members of FUL began hunger striking three weeks ago against a resolution which, according to the students, would worsen the education in the UMSS. The so-called 'resolution 01/15' permits the 900 teachers to earn the title of lecturer, without doing a competence test.
