
Tajikistan: Russian FM Lavrov attends CSTO meeting
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Dushanbe on Thursday to attend the Foreign Ministers Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon was in attendance to greet Lavrov.
On the CSTO agenda includes the strengthening of foreign policy coordination within the organisation, with the foreign ministers expected to look at security issues in Central Asia in light of the current instability and conflict in Afghanistan.
The CSTO is comprised of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Both Serbia and Afghanistan participate as observers, while Iran is believed to be a possible future candidate. Former members include Azerbaijan, Georgia and Uzbekistan.
