Chile: Giant blaze ENGULFS forest near Valparaiso, thousands evacuated
A state of emergency has been declared in two Chilean cities on Friday as a forest fire rages near the Chilean port city of Valparaiso and neighbouring Vina del Mar.
Chilean officials said that around 4,500 people have been evacuated from six neighbourhoods, with a risk that the number could shortly rise to 15,000, as the fire which began on Friday afternoon spread quickly due to high winds.
Chile suffered its worst urban fire in the same region on April 2014, killing 15 people and consuming more than 2,000 homes.
