Greece: Greek justice minister threatens Germany over war reparations
Greece's Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos threatened German authorities, during a session of parliament in Athens, Wednesday, with the possibility of confiscating German assets within Greece if Germany does not engage in serious negotiations over war reparations.
His statement follows Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras's accusation that Germany used legal tricks to avoid paying compensation for the damage done during the Nazi occupation of Greece. Tsipras believes that Germany should pay back €160 billion ($169 billion) to Greece to cover a forced war loan made by the Greek central bank during the war and to compensate for the destruction and suffering caused by the Nazis.
Germany as for now has rejected the calls for compensation, claiming it has honoured all of its WWII obligations.
