Venezuela: Maduro imposes 'anti-terrorist' sanctions against US
Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro announced a series of ‘anti-terrorist’ sanctions on US officials during an ‘anti-imperialist’ commemoration speech in Caracas, Saturday. The ruling is one of a series of new sanctions against what Maduro brands the ‘US imperialist government.'
Those on the ‘anti-terrorist’ list include former US president George W. Bush, his former vice-president Dick Cheney and potential presidential candidate Marco Rubio. Maduro slammed the officials and the US government more generally for violating human rights in Iraq, Syria and Vietnam, calling for a ‘world rebellion’ against the superpower.
Venezuela is also tightening restrictions on US visa applications by reciprocating Washington’s policy on Venezuelans travelling to the US. Maduro also plans to reduce and minimize the number of US embassy officials working in Venezuela, citing the alleged involvement of US functionaries in the recent coup attempt has his reason.
