Ukraine: The hounds of war! The Donetsk dogs rendered homeless by shelling
Sad as a hound dog's eye! A huge number of canines are homeless in Donetsk because some people have not been able to bring their pets with them while escaping the conflict zone. The organisation 'Animals in the City' have been picking up stray dogs and opened their shelter up to journalists, Wednesday.
In Donetsk, the number of stray dogs has dramatically increased since the conflict began in February 2014, and it has been reported that they sometimes operate in packs and attack people because they are starving.
Volunteer organisations are helping the shelter by supplying food and medication for the dogs. The shelter was able to save many dogs and even found new homes for some. They hope to continue to re-house the poor pooches.
