Indonesia: Tony Abbott BURNS at protest in Java
Students from the Indonesian National Student Movement "Coin for Australia" burned pictures of Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott at Malang Square in eastern Java, Monday.
The rally was protesting against Abbot after he spoke about the $1 billion (€884 million) aid relief sent by Australia after the 2004 Tsunami, while appealing for the release of two Australians convicted of drug trafficking. Indonesians are now rallying round to attempt to pay Australia back and have mobilised in record numbers according to reports.
Indonesia plans to execute 11 convicts on death row, including the Australians, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran. The two were part of a group arrested in Bali in 2005 for planning to smuggle 8.3 kg (18.2 lbs) of heroin, valued at over AUS$4 million (US$ 3.1 million, €2.74 million), from Indonesia to Australia.
