
Venezuela: Protesters and National Guard face off at anti-govt rally
Hundreds of anti-government protesters rallied in Caracas on Thursday, as part of nationwide demonstrations marking the anniversary of the violent protests that gripped the country in 2014.
The rally in the Venezuelan capital was led by opposition leader Maria Corina Machado who was joined on the streets by hundreds of students and supporters. Despite a number of tense stand-offs with both the police and National Guard soldiers the protest remained peaceful.
Starting in February 2014, Venezuela saw a series of violent anti-government protests which left 43 people dead and many more injured.
