India: PM Modi 'appalled' by this TEMPLE built in his honour
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed shock and dismay Thursday at plans to inaugurate a temple in his honour. The Hindu temple, featuring an idol of Modi, is located in the village of Kotharia in Gujarat, Modi's home state.
Having seen the news, Modi tweeted that it was "shocking and against India's great traditions." He urged those behind the temple "not to do it," saying he was "appalled" at the idea. In a subsequent tweet he called on Kotharia to devote the same time and resources to "fulfilling our dream of a Clean India." The idol alone reportedly cost $3,000 (€2,645).
In response to Modi's plea, his fans have now scrapped the idea of opening the temple in his name. They will instead dedicate the building to 'Bharat Mata' ('Mother India').
