Germany: COGIDA - a PEGIDA inspired protest group - hold first demo
Around 300 supporters of the group COGIDA (Cottbus against the Islamisation of Europe), a Cottbus based group inspired by the PEGIDA organisation, took to the streets of Cottbus on Wednesday. A counter-demonstration was also held, with numbers estimated between 400-500.
The group's Facebook page details their commitment to a 'cosmopolitan Germany,' however, they state their opposition to the political activities of religious groups - listing Al-Qaeda, ISIS (Islamic State/IS/Daesh) and even the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) - a party whose foundations lie in Marxist-Leninism, not religious texts.
The demonstration began and ended at the Stathalle Cottbus.
