Jordan: Thousands take to Amman's streets following brutal ISIS killing

Hundreds rallied in Amman Wednesday following the brutal killing of Jordanian pilot Muath al-Kaseasbe, who is believed to have been executed by Islamic State (IS) militants by being burnt alive. King Abdullah II of Jordan arrived to Amman on early Wednesday to manage the crisis, after he cut short his visit to Washington, D.C.

A video emerged online Tuesday purportedly showing al-Kaseasbe being burnt alive by IS adherents while he was locked in a cage. The Jordanian government was allegedly negotiating the pilot's liberation with the extremist group, which in turn demanded the liberation of one of its members - Sajida al-Rishawi, who was part of a suicide bombing in Amman in 2005. The negotiations were suspended after the video of the execution emerged. In response, the Jordanian government hanged al-Rishawi along with an alleged Al-Qaeda operative in Amman on early Wednesday.

In December 2014, Muath al-Kaseasbe was captured by IS fighters after his plane went down during an airstrike mission against IS positions in Syria. He is believed to have been killed on January 3.
