China: Lavrov meets Indian, Chinese counterparts before RIC meeting

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Beijing on Monday to attend a trilateral meeting between Russia, India and China (RIC).

Sergei Lavrov was greeted by his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi and held talks with the Minister of External Affairs of India Sushma Swaraj ahead of the meeting later in the day.

The meeting will focus on plans to strengthen Russia-India relations in the next decade. This was agreed upon during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India in December.

Russia considers the Russia-India-China format an effective platform for dialogue between the three countries and it has been in operation since 2003.
