
Russia: Explosion in mine kills one, injures two in Sverdlovsk region
One person was killed and two injured when a blast hit the Yuzhnaya mine in the region of Sverdlovsk, Saturday morning. The explosion occurred at around 04:45 am (01:45 GMT).
At the time of the blast, 89 workers were in the mine, which has a depth of approximately 440 metres (1443 ft). Right after the explosion, 86 miners were safely evacuated to the surface.
According to the Main Department of the Interior Ministry of the Sverdlovsk Region, the explosion was caused when a shirt belonging to one of the workers caught fire.
