
Italy: Rival fans clash in derby day riot in Rome
Clashes broke out between rival football fans following the derby match between AS Roma and Lazio in Rome Sunday. Footage was provided by Repubblica TV.
Fans lit flares and threw stones and bottles at each other as well as attacking the police who tried to separate the rival crowds by charging at them and firing tear gas. One police officer was injured during the clashes.
The violence erupted after AS Roma managed a dramatic comeback from what looked like sure defeat to draw the game 2-2 after their captain Francesco Totti converted a second-half equaliser to tie the score.
