
Italy: Navy pick up 1,300 migrants off Italian waters
The Italian Navy picked up around 1,300 migrants off the coast of Sicily in several rescue operations Thursday. It is reported that this included a Nigerian woman who gave birth on one of the rescue vessels. One man is reported to have been found dead on a ship.
This comes after a further 1,000 migrants were picked up from Sicilian waters on Wednesday. The Italian Interior Ministry say 167,462 migrants have arrived in Italy by sea up to December 17 2014.
