Russia: Putin says 'NATO has built wall around Russia since fall of Berlin Wall'
Russian President Vladimir Putin said NATO had built a new wall since the fall of the Berlin Wall, by expanding eastwards and deploying anti-ballistic missile systems on Russia's borders. He made the comments during his tenth annual major news press conference at Moscow's World Trade Centre, Thursday.
Putin said NATO "didn't stop building new walls despite all our gestures and attempts to work together in Europe and the whole world without any walls of separation".
During the several-hours-long annual presser, the Russian president answers uncensored questions from journalists, and reflects on the outgoing year. A total of 1,259 journalists from 18 countries have been accredited, among them reporters from Japan, the United States, Iran, Germany, France, Romania, Belarus, Sweden, Israel, China, Denmark, Spain, Abkhazia, Poland, Azerbaijan, Vietnam and the United Kingdom.
