USA: "Israeli settlements undermining prospects for peace" - Kerry
Israeli settlements are "undermining prospects for peace," U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday in Washington, DC. His words came as he addressed the Saban Forum at the Willard Hotel.
Kerry also warned that tensions between Israel and Palestine must be dealt with quickly in order to prevent a larger conflict and stop the loss of more lives. He also said that US-Israel relations are "stronger and better" than at any other point in history.
Iran's nuclear enrichment programme was also discussed by Kerry, who said that recent weeks "have seen new ideas surface" that could potentially lead to an agreement. He did not elaborate what those ideas were, but said they were the reason for extending a deadline for negotiations with Iran past the previous deadline of November 24.
The Saban Forum gathers U.S. and Israeli officials and policymakers to discuss relationships between the two countries. It is organised by the Saban Group and hosted by the Centre for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution each year.
