Russia: Have a patriotic puff on the 'Russian Spring' smokes lighting up Crimea
Factory workers in the district of Pogarksy were busy packaging a new brand of ‘topical’ cigarette, Friday, as the Crimean-catered ‘Russian Spring’ smokes are set to hit markets soon.
Picturing two soldiers on a backdrop of the Crimean peninsula, the Russian Spring cigarette packs are an attempt to highlight protests by ethnic Russians in Ukraine demanding more respect from the current government in Kiev. The two men featured on the front of the pack represent the so-called ‘Polite People’, the soldiers who secured Russian bases in Crimea. The tag, popularised on social media, refers to the soldiers’ non-violent and amicable behavior during the reintegration of the peninsula into the Russian Federation.
Zyabkin Alexei Leonidovich, a representative from the Pogarsky tabacco factory, said similar cigarettes were smoked in the times of the Soviet Union.
