Spain: See Greenpeace dramatically RAMMED by Spanish navy, one injured
Greenpeace activists attempted to protest the drilling by the multinational Repsol in the waters around Lanzarote and Fuereventura, Saturday.
Approaching the drillship Rowan Renaissance in dinghies launched from the Greenpeace vessel the Arctic Sunrise, they were intercepted by three patrol boats of the Spanish Navy. The dinghies were repeatedly rammed by the patrol boats, results in one activist being thrown overboard and reportedly suffering a fracture.
The protest was over the drilling by Repsol for oil off the Canary Islands. The Madrid based company finally won the contract after a 12-year quest for permission to explore what may be the nations largest oil reserves.
