USA: Ferguson GUN sales grow as Darren Wilson verdict looms
Sales of firearms have increased recently in Ferguson as the outcome of the Darren Wilson case approaches, weapons shop owner Steven L. King said Friday.
Bestsellers at his Metro Shooting Supplies store include Smith & Wessons, Sig Sauer handguns and AR15 rifles. Rifles are preferred by customers because of their bigger chamber capacity and ease of shooting. Clients were seen trying out weapons at a shooting range installed in the shop's basement, Friday.
Protests in Ferguson are expected to resume if a grand jury fails to indict Darren Wilson, the white police officer who shot and killed unarmed African-American teenager Michael Brown. Steven L. King said local residents were purchasing weapons in "self-defence," since they feared a repeat of August this year, when riots broke out and shops were smashed and emptied as community anger over the killing of Mike Brown boiled over.
