
Russia: Cosmonaut Suraev returns to Star City after half a year at ISS
Russian cosmonaut Maxim Suraev landed in Star City Monday following a flight from Arkalyk in Kazakhstan at 22.58 (16.58 GMT) on Sunday night. The crew were returning after spending five and a half months in space for Expedition 41.
Having travelled more than 70 million miles (113 million km) in space, Commander of the Space Station Maxim Suraev spent the mission with NASA astronaut Reid Wiseman and German flight engineer Alexander Gerst.
During their time aboard the station, the crew participated in research focusing on remote Earth sensing, advanced manufacturing and studies of bone and muscle physiology. They set a milestone for station science by completing a record 82 hours of research in a single week in July. Yuri Lonchakov, Head of the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre, said that the joint work went was friendly, adding that these types of missions operate in a vacuum from politics.
