
Russia: Shoigu praises Vostok-2014 drills as great success

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu gave a debriefing on the Vostok-2014 strategic exercises during a Moscow conference, Wednesday, concluding that the drills were a success.
Shoigu stated that Vostok-2014 served three main purposes. The first was assessing whether Russian special units could protect the country's far north and east from attack. Secondly, he outlined how the drills proved that the military were able to deploy forces to remote areas. Lastly, the exercises were also used to check the effectiveness of cooperation between land, sea and air forces.
Over 155,000 troops, around 8,000 weapons and items of military equipment, dozens of warships, and hundreds of aircraft took part in Vostok-2014 which lasted from September 19 to September 24.
