Turkey: Smoke rises over under siege Kobane as US-led airstrikes continue
The U.S-led coalition continued airstrikes on positions of self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) units in the Syrian border town of Kobane, Thursday. At the same time, Kurdish fighters continue fighting with the militant group.
IS militants launched their offensive on Kobane in mid-September, capturing several nearby Kurdish villages and have been steadily tightening their grip on surrounding areas of the town. The fighting has forced at least 200,000 Kobane residents and nearby villagers to flee across the Syrian border into Turkey.
