
Turkey: Police clash with Kurdish protesters as IS advance
Hundreds of demonstrators protesting the advance of Islamic State (IS) on the Kurdish Syrian border-town of Kobane clashed with police in the predominantly Kurdish-populated city of Batman, Tuesday.
Protesters put up barricades and hurled stones, fireworks and firebombs at the police. Police deployed armoured vehicles, tear gas and water cannon to disperse the protests. Clashes also erupted in at least six other cities including Istanbul, Diyarbakir, Van, Sirnak, Sanliurfa and Hakkari.
