Russia: Watch as Muslims slaughter sheep for Eid in Moscow
Dozens of sheep were killed around the Moscow region on Saturday as part of the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha. It is tradition that sheep are sacrificed and prepared into many dishes during the holiday. One-third of the meat is eaten by family and relatives, one-third is given away to friends, and one-third is donated to the poor.
The sacrifice is in commemoration of the prophet Abraham's trials, one of which was a command from Allah to kill his only son.
Celebrations of the major Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha started on Saturday morning at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque.
