
Germany: "Kiev should have closed their airspace" says lawyer of German MH17 victims' families

German lawyer Elmar Giemulla spoke about why the families of German victims of the MH17 crash plan to sue the Government of Ukraine for manslaughter by negligence in 298 cases,during an interview in Berlin on Monday.
Giemulla, a professor of aviation law, is representing three families who lost relatives in the MH17 crash. He stated that under international law, the Ukrainian government should have closed its air space, as it could not guarantee the safety of flights. Giemulla said it was the government’s responsibility to provide security over their territory and "protect innocent people against the consequences of rebellion".
Four German citizens were among the 298 people killed when the MH17 flight crashed in east Ukraine on July 17.
