The first voters flocked to Caird Hall Dundee polling station on Thursday, as polling stations across Scotland opened at 07:00 local time (06:00 GMT) for the independence referendum. Polling will close at 22:00 local time (21:00 GMT).
Ninety-seven percent of eligible Scots are registered to vote in today's referendum on whether or not to leave the United Kingdom and become fully independent. Voters will answer either yes or no to one question: "Should Scotland be an independent country?"
The official national result is slated to be announced at 07:00 local time (06:00 GMT) on Friday morning, but regional results could start coming through as of 02:00 local time (01:00 GMT).
