Ukraine: Mariupol placed under curfew by Ukrainian Border Guard
The southern Ukrainian city of Mariupol was placed under a special curfew on Tuesday by Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Galetsky of the Ukrainian border guards.
The curfew means movement in the city will be restricted, entry and exit from the city will be forbidden between 20:00 in the evening and 06:00 in the morning. However, there is an exception for registered Mariupol residents. Meanwhile the speed limit in the city has been lowered to a maximum of 40 kmph (24.9 mph).
The decision was made during a meeting of the 'Staff for the Defence of Mariupol', and the measures were deemed necessary in order to ensure security in the city.
On Monday morning a bridge to the north of the city was blown up just hours ahead of a visit by President Petro Poroshenko.
