UK: Welcome to fortified Cardiff - temp prison-like home of NATO
Cardiff Bay saw six HMS warships deployed Thursday for the NATO summit taking place in the capital as well as in Newport. On top of the heightened maritime security, the city streets have been locked-down as the city became a modern-day, hyper-securitised fort.
At least 9,500 police officers have been deployed to work on duty for the NATO summit, coming from 43 forces, in a bid to protect the 60 world leaders and 4,000 delegates participating in the summit, which began Thursday.
Armed police with machine guns could also be seen patrolling Cardiff. Multiple road closures have also been carried out, including on the Castle Road and on North Road, stopping any inflow or outflow of traffic.
