
Iraq: Half a million displaced Iraqis receive 2,500 tons of aid in Zakho
The United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) continued to conduct a massive airlift on Tuesday in Zakho to assist some 500,000 Iraqis displaced by conflict in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
Ships, trucks and cargo aircraft have brought 2,500 tons (2260000 kg)of aid into the Zakho, whilst displaced Iraqis have had to walk over 200 km (124 miles) to reach the area.
Recent assessments by the UNHCR indicate there are now more than 850,000 displaced in Iraq's Kurdistan region.
Aid kits by the organisation for the displaced persons include mattresses, blankets, kitchen sets and jerry cans.
