Germany: Anti-Merkel protesters oppose war with Russia
Protesters opposed to the policies of German Chancellor Angela Merkel gathered in Dresden's historic Neumarkt Friday, voicing opposition to further German actions against Russia over ongoing unrest in Ukraine. Protesters bore signs with slogans such as "No war with Russia" and "War driver."
Merkel has had numerous telephone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin as the political situation in Ukraine remains unstable. She most recently spoke with Putin Wednesday, asking for clarification on accusations that Russian armoured troops had moved into East Ukraine. Both leaders have agreed international efforts to deescalate the conflict need to be increased.
