USA: Ferguson residents 'trapped in bubble' as police block roads

Ferguson’s West Florissant Avenue remained shut down on Wednesday, along with nearby drives leading to residential complexes. Locals, who now have to show their gas or electricity bills to be let inside, voiced their contempt for the move.

Local authorities had set up road blocks to control access to protest sites, preventing residents from getting to their homes after 5pm local time. Among blocked roadways are Exuma drive, North winds Estate drive, Highmont drive and Kapel drive.

Tensions remain high in Ferguson, 11 days after the police shooting of African American teenager Michael Brown. Street patrolling responsibility has since shifted from the local authorities to the state highway patrol and then the National Guard. US Attorney General Eric Holder has arrived in Ferguson earlier in the day in an effort to soothe tensions.

A total of 47 people have been arrested on Tuesday night, after another black male was killed by police on Tuesday afternoon.
