USA: National Guard puts Ferguson streets on lockdown
The National Guard set up camp outside the Quik Trip petrol station, Tuesday, the epicentre of Ferguson's violence following the police shooting of Michael Brown.
Troops from the Missouri's National Guard could be seen securing the area around the petrol station, taking over local businesses, and pitching tents. The soldiers were using a range of military equipment including short-barreled 5.56-mm rifle, Humvees, and Bearcat G3 armoured vehicles.
The presence of such heavy policing in Ferguson follows Missouri Senator Jay Nixon's decision to deploy the National Guard on Monday.
Although calls have come from the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for US law enforcement to allow Ferguson's protesters their right to demonstrate, police officials and the Guard are not allowing any pedestrians to enter in the area.
