France: Activists rally to protest IS slaughter in Iraq
Around 1,000 protesters rallied in Paris on Saturday in support of Christians and Yazidis in Iraq's Kurdistan who face persecution at the hands of the Islamic State (IS). Protesters carried a variety of flags and banners from various political groups, and called for action to help protect the rights of Christians, Yazidis and other at-risk groups amid the ongoing unrest in Iraq.
On Wednesday, the United Nations declared its highest level of humanitarian crisis, a "Level 3 Emergency," in Iraq. According to UN estimates, around 40,000 Yazidis remain stranded on Mount Sinjar, where the United States has been attempting to deliver humanitarian aid supplies via air drops.
