Russia: President Putin meets with Azerbaijani President over Armenia escalation concerns *POOL*
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for bilateral talks on Saturday at Putin’s Sochi residence.
The presidents touched upon a number of bilateral and regional issues during the talks, with Putin stating that he is pleased about the “element of trust which is constantly growing” between the two countries. They also spoke about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, with Aliyev saying it “has lasted far too long and needs to be addressed”.
Over the last past week 19 soldiers were killed in the Nagorno-Karabakh area, which has been under Armenian control since 1994. Concerns are growing that the recent deaths will lead to further escalation in an already tense situation.
