The Pentagon released footage on Saturday of humanitarian air drops which were performed on Thursday, August 7 over the Sinjar mountains. The operation was aimed at assisting the thousands of Iraqi civilians who are hiding in the mountains from IS (formerly known as ISIS) forces.

One C-17 and one C-130 military aircraft dropped 72 parachutes carrying bundles of supplies, which totalled 5,300 gallons of fresh drinking water and around 8,000 meals. The aircraft flew at low altitude during the drops and were accompanied by two F/A-18 planes.
