Israel: Ex-IDF soldiers denounce Gaza destruction
A group of former Israel Defence Force (IDF) soldiers publicly announced their refusal to serve in the army in Tel Aviv on Thursday, dually denouncing Israel's latest assault on Gaza which began on July 8. Some of these former soldiers currently work for "Breaking the Silence," an Israeli human rights organisation which collects testimonies from IDF soldiers.
Around 60 veteran soldiers recently published an open letter in the Washington Post entitled, "We are Israeli reservists. We refuse to serve," stating that they would not continue their military service and refused to be drafted to serve in Operation Protective Edge.
The soldiers' defiance follows the Israeli government's announcement that it would be calling as many as 16,000 reservists to arms.
