Belgium: New sanctions to target entities as well as individuals - Van Rompuy
President of the European Council, Hermann Van Rompuy, rolled out a fresh list of sanctions Europe has discussed imposing on Russia following a special meeting of the European Council in Brussels on Tuesday.
The six-step plan includes sanctions being placed on both entities and individuals deemed responsible for "materially or financially supporting actions undermining or threatening Ukrainian sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence."
Van Rompuy said that leaders had also asked the Council to consider the possibility of targeting individuals or entities who actively provide material or financial support to the Russian decision makers "responsible for the annexation of Crimea or the destabilization of eastern Ukraine."
Earlier on Tuesday, the White house extended the list of sanctions targeting individuals as well as financial institutions and companies which the US say are involved in destabilizing the situation in Ukraine. Russia largest oil producer Rosneft and major bank Vnesheconombank were included on the new list of targets, as are individuals Minister for Crimean Affairs Oleg Savelyev, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma (Russian Parliament) Sergei Neverov, presidential aide Igor Shchegolev and Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) PM Aleksandr Borodai.
