Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was sworn in at the Presidential Palace in Damascus on Tuesday, heralding a new seven year term for the leader of the nation.
The ceremony held in Syria’s capital marked Assad’s third term in office, with the president swearing to honour Syria’s constitution in front of an audience of military representatives, Muslim and Christian clergymen and members of the People's Council.
During the event, Assad walked through the presidential palace gardens past brigades of Syrian military in formal attire. Later he took to the stage, swearing by the Quran to fully represent the Republic to his full capabilities.
