Military officers drawn from across the country faced off in battle in the final stage of the 'Best Commander Competition' held in the Southern Military District in Krasnador, Thursday. Twenty-two military officers took part in tactical air defence games, destroying moving air targets at an altitude of 200 metres (656 ft) in an imitation of an enemy air strike.
Officers used a range of Russian made anti-aircraft weapons including the 9K22 Tunguska anti-aircraft weapon armed with surface-to-air gun and missile systems and the 9K35 Strela-10 short-range surface to air missile system, a highly mobile, visually aimed, optical/infra-red guided system.
In a simulation of a battle scenario the officers also fired the 9K38 Igla man-portable infrared homing surface-to-air missile (SAM). Officers also demonstrated competency in firing on enemy positions from armoured vehicles and firing small arms.
The Southern Military District borders the Caucasus, South East Ukraine and the Caspian Sea.
