Iraq: Russian surplus Sukhoi fighter jets to aid against ISIS
The Iraqi government announced on Thursday that it plans to buy military surplus fighter jets and attack helicopters from both Russia and Belarus to bolster its air force.
According to statements by President Nouri al-Maliki, the decision was taken after delays in delivery of 36 promised F-16 fighter aircraft from the US damaged the force's offensive capability.
Russia will provide aircraft including the Sukhoi Su-27 air superiority fighter, the Su-30 deep strike craft and a consignment of Mil Mi-28 anti-armor attack helicopters.
