Syria: Syrian election campaign kicks off in Damascus
Election campaign billboards of President Bashar al-Assad's party and his two contenders are now visible throughout the Syrian capital as campaigning for the Syrian elections started on Sunday.
Billboards bearing President Bashar al-Assad's signature and the word "together" written in Arabic, lined the streets and topped buildings in Damascus. Some were visible next to posters for candidate Maher Abdul-Hafiz Hajjar calling for a "battle against corruption," a "free economy" and the "return of the middle class". Hajjar is an independent MP and former Communist Party member from Aleppo.
Damascus businessman Hassan Abdullah al-Nuri also began his campaign with posters of himself and the slogan "restoring the middle class".
