The city of Valmiera marked the 24th anniversary of Latvia's Declaration of the Renewal of Independence Sunday, with US soldiers taking part in the military procession.
US paratroopers, who are in the country for upcoming national drills, conducted some air exercises as part of the anniversary celebrations.
On May 4, 1990, the Supreme Council adopted the declaration of independence for the Republic of Latvia and sent a letter to Mikhail Gorbachev, the then Soviet Union President, officially declaring Latvia's transition to independence.
