Russia: Fire devastates Siberian town of Cheremkhovo
A fire that raged through the Siberian town of Cheremkhovo devastated 18 wooden houses and large swaths of land on Tuesday morning.
The fire was reported at 10:14 am local time (01:14 GMT) and extinguished at 12:25 pm local. A total of 64 people were registered as residents in the houses that burnt down, according to Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations, Emercom. Temporary accommodation was provided for 28 of those evacuated, while another 36 reportedly stayed with relatives.
Fed by high winds of up to 32 kph (20 mph), the fire required a total of 29 units and 137 rescue workers to bring under control. One woman was reportedly sent to hospital with second degree burns.
